OPUS Award

Germany: Sound designer Peter Hecker and Neumann & Mueller project leader Wolfram Kolb picked up an OPUS Award for their outstanding work on a performance of Stockhausen´s Helicopter String Quartet by the world-renowned Stadler Quartet recently. The main challenge was establishing the unusual soundworld of the composer´s typically uncompromising piece, as Wolfram Kolb noted: "The sound of the helicopters was an integral part of Stockhausen´s composition, so we positioned a [Big Twin] vocal mic inside and an MKE 2 on the nose of each of the four helicopters, so the sound of rotor and motor could be added to the mix".
