From the Rider to the Show
Hamburg, May 2008
From May 17 to May 20 the AES will take place at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam.
On May 19, Neumann&Müller will offer the below-mentioned workshop from 9.30 a.m. – 12.00 noon and 1.00 – 5.00 p.m in Room “Forum”.
In a practical workshop, the project manager/sound engineer Michael Kennedy from Neumann&Müller will demonstrate how professional event technicians approach the planning and realisation of a production. With clear reference to professional practice, he will explain to those taking part in the workshops how to deal with specific customer requirements, how to put technical stage directions – the rider – into practice as well as equipment logistics. In doing so, he will also go into the details of dealing with budget constraints, of creating detailed plans using Auto-CAD and of the way acoustic simulation programmes are used. He will discuss the extremely important role of regular and clear communication with the customer and between the various departments involved in the show. Based on the production planning for the appearance of the band "à la Phonk" who will be performing later in the day (consisting of keyboard, drums, guitar, bass and vocals), he will then go into details of equipment setup, patch planning, and task allocation for the technicians working on the show. Participants in the workshop will then be able to follow the setting up of the stage and calibration of the PA system, followed by microphone setup and soundcheck. During the seminar, participants can move between the auditorium and an OB van and observe the different sound requirements for each situation.
The seminar aims to provide an insight into the importance of thorough technical preparation to lay the foundations for a successful performance.
