Overview

Brazil is one of the largest countries in the world, the largest state in South America and the fifth-largest country in the world after Russia, Canada, the United States and China.

In this country, lush rainforests coexist with majestic mountains, wild jungles with magnificent beaches, huge rivers with deserted plateaus, roaring waterfalls with cosy and quiet bays. Brazil is rightly called a country of contrasts. If in one part of it there are heavy rains, then in the other one the sun must shine.

Main Theme

The main theme of the Brazil Pavilion at Expo 2020 is “Together for Sustainable Development”. The idea of the exhibition is to bring the Amazon jungle to visitors, let them personally experience an extraordinary tropical environment. It is simple, yet so powerful to create a place for a tranquil escape from the noisy and overwhelmed outside world. Guests will dive into the virtual world of Brazilian tropical nature, accompanied by real sound, light, smell and overall ambience of a rainforest.

The Experience

As visitors enter the pavilion, they will encounter a spacious expanse, where they can experience the real-life Amazon jungles. The area is equipped with the latest projectors that create a virtual experience, taking guests into the incredible tropical world. The pavilion is designed to provide a safe peaceful zone, where people can rest and ease their minds by enjoying their time listening to the natural sounds of the jungle, feeling tropical rain and completely concentrating on the surrounding ambience.

Our Main Challenges

The biggest technical challenge that Neumann&Müller Middle East had to tackle at the Brazil pavilion at Expo 2020 was the complex blending of visual content across the immense 360-degree projection.

The content visuals had to be seamlessly blended via the integration of 125 projectors in a uniform, pixel-perfect alignment, across the entire interior surface of the 4,000 square metres pavilion.

Moreover, due to the open-air design of the pavilion all the equipment had to withstand harsh weather in the region and remain in optimal operating conditions throughout the six - months show duration.

In addition to that, the entire installation had to be carried out within a very short timeframe during the summer months of the year, with temperatures reaching 45°C.

Our Solutions

In order to address the issue of projector operation under extreme weather conditions, we designed a completely custom enclosure solution. The product featured a system that utilized intelligent sensors to monitor and regulate the levels of temperature, humidity and dust.

As part of the production phase, the enclosure concept has undergone rigorous stress tests that included a continuous 30-day operation, where anticipated weather conditions have been closely replicated in a climate chamber.

In addition to being customized for the application, these bespoke projector enclosures were also designed with a specific installation method in mind, where our technical team planned for every step of the fitting process. This task was particularly demanding due to the variation in full sizes between the 125 enclosures, where some of them weighed as much as 500 kg, which made the installation on-site require a minimum of eight crew members per single project mounting.
