2025 Artistic Europeans

At the end of May, Messe Leipzig became the main stage for the world’s largest competition and grassroots sports event, with …

… the International German Gymnastics Festival being held in parallel with the 11th Artistic Gymnastics European Championships. 135 female and 166 male gymnasts from 37 nations displayed their skills on a range of different equipment in the continental championships held in “HALLE:EINS” of Messe Leipzig. Spread over six days, the competition was jam-packed with top-flight events and provided a whole host of emotional highlights.

The same was true of the Gymnastics Festival, with the exhibition centre acting as one of the central venues for a diverse sporting event and accompanying programme. A wide variety of sporting disciplines along with shows and presentations took up four of the centre’s halls, while a large number of exhibitors set out their stalls in the “Glashalle”. The evening events held in the park thrilled audiences with their festival-like character. The organisers counted over 80,000 participants and several hundred thousand visitors at the six-day event, which was spread across 40 venues throughout the city of Leipzig.

Working for the trade fair company/FAIRNET, we implemented the technical aspects of “Production Office Berlin’s” planning for the Artistic Gymnastics European Championships. FAIRNET was responsible for equipping the competition and activity spaces with stages, grandstands, platforms, temporary rooms, flooring and furniture. Our focus was on event technology, namely the planning and realisation of Audio, Lighting, Video and Rigging for the European Championship competitions in “HALLE:EINS”, which, being so large, also provided space for training and warm-up sessions. With regard to the 7,000 grandstand seats around the “Field of Play”, our main job was to create perfect audio and visual conditions to enhance spectators’ sporting experience. One way in which we achieved this was by using a 360-degree PA system consisting of 22 line arrays. For the lighting we used almost 500 moving lights and multiple integrated FollowMe systems to ensure the set-up met broadcasting standards. We installed a high-performance optical fibre network with in-built redundancy to ensure perfect control of all the technical systems.
