Final of the 2020 GSA Esports League

After 14 thrilling match days and a total of 56 play-off matches, the four best teams in the 2020 GSA League qualified …

… for the final. The finals of the regional Esports league for “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six®Siege” were broadcast from Munich’s Eisbach Studios in the middle of September. In view of the corona pandemic, Ubisoft – the organiser of the finals – wanted to protect the health of the esport teams, players and spectators, and so 14 days before the event they announced that this final would be held entirely online and broadcast on Twitch and YouTube. Analysts, casters and hosts were the only people present in the studio. In our role as general service provider, we reorganised the originally planned offline set-up within the remaining two weeks so that a new format could be broadcast by livestream from the studio instead of the live gaming event: with opening ceremony, live analysis and interviews with the players – plus, of course, the awarding of the trophy to the 2020 GSA champions.

Having been involved as a service provider in the early stages of the process, we were able to put together an all-round package comprising not only the entire technical equipment for the studio – audio, lighting, video, rigging – but also lighting design and set design as well as set and scenery construction. We also provided the broadcast sound and streaming signal. In close and cooperative collaboration with our client FLIMMER GmbH, the organiser Ubisoft and TakeTV, which was responsible for all in-game services, we were able to coordinate our efforts and create a perfect solution for the gamers and viewers of the final.

The focal point of the production at Eisbach Studios was a stage measuring around 25 by 10 metres and surrounded by a video surface, for which we designed a corner wall Softedge projection with six projectors. From here, a livestream lasting around ten hours was broadcast to an international audience on each day of the show. 60,000 spectators followed events live via the various platforms with a further 60,000 views on the streaming portal Twitch and a tremendous 130,000 on YouTube.
